England rode on Jason Roy (43 off 16 balls) and Joe Root's (83 off 44 balls) aggressive hitting to register the highest successful run chase in a World T20 game against South Africa at the Wankhede stadium on Friday.

England batsmen started hitting the big ones from the word go smashing 21 runs of Kagiso Rabada's first over. Dale Steyn was treated no better as Roy and Alex Hales smashed 23 runs off his over.

England looked in a spot of bother after losing wickets in succession. However, Jos Buttler and Root stitched a 72-run partnership to take the game away from the Proteas. Root was dismissed in the 19th over but England held their nerves to reach the target in 19.4 overs. England broke the record held by South Africa who chased 206 against West Indies in the inaugural edition of World T20 in 2007.

Earlier, South Africa bludgeoned England with the second highest total in World Twenty20 history in making 229-4.

Hashim Amla blazed 58 off 31 deliveries and Quinton de Kock smashed 52 off 24 balls against the same England bowling attack which was destroyed by West Indian Chris Gayle only two days ago.
JP Duminy joined in South Africa's runfest with an unbeaten 54 off 28 balls.

Openers Amla and de Kock cracked seven fours and three sixes each in a rollicking start of 96 off 43 balls after England won the toss and opted to field first.

Offspinner Moeen Ali removed Amla and de Kock to finish with 2-34.
